CO2 Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing

Major advances in technology have created what promises to be the gold standard in the restoration of sun damaged and aging skin with the CO2 Fractional Laser, recently introduced at chebo clinic. In the past, traditional CO2 laser was the only option for effective non-surgical skin rejuvenation. However, this procedure often presented difficult to manage side effects such as a lengthy healing period and irregularities in pigment distribution. Due to the frequency with which these issues occurred, this treatment was never introduced at Chebo Clinics.
Today the CO2 brings to the marketplace the innovative merger of properties associated with traditional CO2 that were very effective and fractional technology, producing a superior method of skin resurfacing. Fractional technology has the unique capability of delivering a customized pattern of tiny, micro-sized dots of laser energy, rather than treating the entire skin surface. The presence of small areas of healthy skin in between treated areas results in more rapid skin recovery with minimal downtime following the procedure. Laser settings can be adjusted throughout the treatment and can target the entire face, including the eye area and fine lines around the mouth. Additionally, the CO2 can be used to treat the neck and chest.

Imperfections of the skin that can be corrected with this procedure include:

  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Irregular skin texture
  • Age spots and larger areas of pigmentation
  • Loose, crepey skin
  • Acne scars

The amount of healing time associated with resurfacing is directly proportionate to the intensity of laser settings for each individual treatment. Following laser resurfacing there will be varying degrees of swelling, redness and peeling which may last 3-7 days. More aggressive treatments produce more dramatic results but may extend the healing time slightly. These issues will be determined in advance of resurfacing, based on the wishes of the individual being treated. It is possible that one may choose to have one aggressive treatment or two or more lighter procedures to achieve the desired results.
The CO2 Fractional Laser Resurfacing is today's best choice for high level rejuvenation of the skin. You will experience tighter, clear, healthy skin with a marked reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, an overall age reversing result!

What causes stretch marks?

Stretch marks occur when the elastic middle layer of skin called the dermis is stretched. Stretching leads to a breakdown of connective tissue, inflammation, and then scar formation as the injury heals. It's the scarring that causes stretch marks to appear.

Stretch marks are common during puberty and rapid growth spurts in adolescence, pregnancy, excessive weight gain and obesity, pregnancy, when muscle mass increases rapidly and stretches the skin (like during bodybuilding), and sometimes when individuals use steroids for many months. Stretch marks are not a health risk but can be cosmetically unappealing.

How do they look like?
Stretch marks often start off as reddish or purplish in color and then become glossy skin that appears streaked in silver or white.
Men and women can get stretch marks on several areas of their bodies, including the abdominal area, thighs, hips, breasts, upper arms or lower back.

Stretch mark commonly appear during puberty, pregnancy or rapid weight gain

Treatment for stretch marks:

Over-the-counter products

Vitamin E creams, topical creams, ointments, gels and moisturizers are not particularly effective. They may improve the stretch mark appearance by about 10% after 6 months of applying the product 2-3 times a day for 6 months. Most people give up after using the products for 1 to 2 weeks as it is too much of a hassle and results are extremely slow and improvements are minimal.

Fractional CO2 laser (superior treatment for stretch marks)
We have fractional CO2 laser machine in the market today for stretch mark removal and laser resurfacing. It also helps to improve skin texture, tighten the skin and reduces sagging. You would need 4 sessions to improve the stretch mark by at least 60-80%.

It cost $200 per session per area for Fractional CO2 laser . Stomach /both lower limbs/ both upper limbs/ buttocks are considered 1 area each. You will need 6 sessions to improve the stretch marks by at leasy 60-80%.

Before the procedure, we apply numbing cream to the area to be lasered so that any discomfort is minimized. There is a warm sensation similar to a sunburn during the laser. The sensation will go off in a few hours. Each laser session takes about 15-20 minutes for each area.

Fractional CO2 laser is a simple and safe procedure. The skin would be slightly red with fine dots for 2 months. It takes a longer time to recover on stomach/ back/ legs/ thighs/ buttocks compared to 1 week recovery for face lasers. This is because the blood supply to the face is better than other parts of the body.

You need to wait at least 2 month in between laser sessions so that the skin can heal. The results are permanent. It is safe for all skin types.

What to Expect During and After Fractional CO2 Resurfacing:

What to expect while you are in the office for your treatment:
When you first arrive for your Fractional CO2 Resurfacing treatment, we will take “before” photos and review the risks and benefits associated with the procedure. We will then apply a topical anesthetic (“numbing cream”) to the face which will be left on for approximately¬†1/2 hour. After¬†1/2 hour of numbing, you will feel only very mild discomfort during the procedure.
Immediately after the treatment, you will have numerous tiny white dots on your skin. These are the areas which the Fractional CO2 laser has treated. The Fractional CO2 Resurfacing treatment takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. After the procedure, we will apply an ointment to promote healing and give you instructions for aftercare to take home with you.
  Day 1-2 after treatment:¬†
You will have redness and swelling on Day 1 after Fractional CO2 resurfacing. On Day 1, you will still see the small dots on your face. They will begin to appear red or brown, rather than white (as they did on the day of the treatment.) Some areas of the face may be more red than others, this is normal. Some patients have crusting and oozing on Days 1 and 2 after Fractional CO2 resurfacing. Please contact us if this does not resolve.
  Day 3-4 after treatment:
On Day 3 after Fractional CO2 Resurfacing, there is still redness and the small dots are still present, though they may be starting to appear lighter. Swelling will be mostly resolved by now. You will begin to notice a “bronzed” appearance of the skin and will see flaking begin. The redness will continue to lighten over the course of the week, though the flaking may continue for up to one week. You may apply makeup or cover-up over the treated area beginning on Day 4 most of the time.
1 week after Fractional CO2 Resurfacing:
1 week after Fractional CO2 Resurfacing, your skin will appear very slightly pink. This is can be covered by makeup or tinted moisturizer, if you wish to do so. The appearance now is more like a sunburn than the very red appearance that the skin had in the days immediately following the laser treatment.
1 month after Fractional CO2 Resurfacing:
1 month after Fractional CO2 Resurfacing, the redness should have resolved and you will start to see the effects of the treatment. It can take up to 6 months to realize the final improvement of the Fractional CO2 laser treatment.
